While they may be the most idiosyncratic element of the software, it is these ambient sounds that in a way carry the user out of the distracting world they are living in and signify to them that they are entering a calm and creative space.Īll the people who worked in this project are: So we abandoned traditional word processing completely and created a space where the user would be surrounded by a calm and inspiring environment, made up of serene images and ambient sounds. We saw the traditional concept of a word processor as a reflection of the clutter and noise we were trying to escape from, with its endless options and complicated formats, not to mention the fact that it is just two clicks away from the infinite distractions of the Internet. to escape from our loud offices and cluttered desktops and simply concentrate on our ideas. Ommwriter began as in internal tool that we would use here at Herraiz Soto & Co. We wanted to know more about this project and then we reached for Julian Watts from Herraiz Soto & Co and David Ummmo, the music composer behind the sound of the software. If you download Ommmwriter (free but only Mac now, sorry…) you coud realize that one of the most important feature is the selection of the soundtrack. Some bloggers are calling it Zen software, we would like to propose a new name: emotional software. Now the spanish agency Herraiz Soto & Co comes up with this idea: a software called Ommwriter, a very simple text editor which helps the user to focus his attention, removing external distractions and improving the creative process. Mr. Donald Norman should be very happy about this, we’re sure. But this the digital era and then maybe the object we’re using mostly during our day is called Max for Live, Logic or Ocarina. While it might be difficult to concentrate on the writing while surrounded by the technicalities of the software, it is not impossible to get something down on paper, even if you are staring at a blank screen waiting for your thought to flow into text. We’re very interested in sound design for everyday objects. And since everything is laid out in a table of contents so you can just jump to the section you need, you can concentrate on the writing task at hand, leaving the technicalities for the humans to deal with. One of the great features of ommwriter is that it allows you to dictate a word and then the computer spits out whatever comes to the mind, so there is no need to worry about trying to come up with creative ideas because the software will do it for you. The writer can actually use ommwriter and still have a lot of fun. This simple text tool is not an elaborate hoax. There is also a page editor on the software that allows you to quickly edit your written files for paper sizes as small as A4. The tool works with any word processing program. You can also export your finished pages in PDF or JPEG formats for others to view and download. As the name suggests, ommwriter is a word processor that allows you to create and save your works in a spreadsheet or text file. Ommwriter is part word processor, part art work of a new kind, and part tool. Ommwriter is a simple tool that makes creative writing a pleasure once again, enabling writers to be alone with their ideas to focus and to write with no distractions. This book does just that: it gives the writer a break from technology by focusing on the story. If the technology is the problem, then the writer should get out of the computer and focus on what comes next. The latest digital writing programs allow the writer to focus on the story rather than the technology. In her book, Writer's Digest Article #2 - What is Omniwriter? Writer's Digest Associate Editor, Ruth Graham offers an alternative to the old writing tools that seem to have been abandoned by the modern writer.
